A Diamond Is Not Just About The Sparkle…

Rings are obviously a part of every woman’s life, whether it is worn as a fashion piece, engagement or wedding ring. This is why caution and consideration is put in the process to make sure that the right ring is selected. Elegance and beauty are not the only things that are considered because durability and functionality are equally important. One of the most common rings is the diamond rings because of their timeless elegance. The shape or cut of the diamond is important because it determines how much the ring will sparkle. A diamond’s cut refers to the proportions in terms of uniformity, width and depth. You should keep in mind that if the cut is not done properly, the light travels out the sides or bottom which means there will be no sparkle. So, how do you choose the shape of diamond that best suits your taste and fingers?

The most overlooked aspect when selecting the shape of the diamond is the shape of the wearer’s fingers and hands. Emerald, marquise and oval cut diamonds are ideal for women with thin and tapered fingers because of their elongated shapes. Princess cut, round and pear cut stones are best suited for thick fingers. Round shaped diamonds are considered for all finger types.

You should not make the mistake of copying Hollywood trends just to copy your favorite celebrity. It is wise to select a shape that will not look outdated and tiresome because of its large size. The heart shaped diamonds are perfect for engagements while the odd shapes can be ideal as a fashion accessory. The wedding ring shape should complement the engagement ring by selecting different shapes instead of a plain band.

It is important to put into consideration the thickness and width of the band. You should keep in mind that a delicate narrow band looks bulky with longer stones. On the other hand, a wide band looks stunning with elongated stones.

If you are going to include accent stones on your ring, then you should be aware that this will affect the central stone’s shape. For instance, elongated shaped stones like diamond solitaire look a lot better with diamond accents. On the other hand, remember that too much detail will outshine the center stone and make it look bland.

The cost of diamond varies from one dealer to another but the shape also plays a major role. Designer or rare shapes generally cost more than other shapes of similar quality and size.
