Marketing

Promoting a site for Google requires a different tack than promoting a site for human viewers. Google is getting better at determining a site’s worth all the time. They update their algorithms multiple times a day, with major changes happening roughly once a month. This is good news. Every change in Google’s search protocol means that they are getting better at learning what your site is about and figuring out which search queries best match your content. They are getting a clearer view of the real value of your site.

Imagine you own a store that sells leather jackets, a real one with walls and a door, and you name it ‘The Hard-Wear Store’ to be edgy. Let’s say people in your town aren’t that bright, and they get the wrong idea. They visit your store looking for hammers and nails, light bulbs and ladders. Every time a new customer comes through the door, you make a tally mark on a piece of paper. You’re doing great, according to the tally sheet. You’ve only got 10 people a day coming in to check out your leather jackets, but 20 more people coming in to look for hardware stuff. 30 people a day, that’s great! You start to promote your store, claiming you are entertaining 30 customers a day, three times what a normal leather jacket store gets. Even the mayor stopped by your store last week (looking for lug nuts, but that’s not important).

This is not a terrible situation, provided you are the leather jacket dealer. You’re wasting some of your energy getting the wrong kind of customers, but maybe some of them decide to get leather jackets while they’re at your store. But what if you are the owner of a hardware store in the same town and you’ve been seeing fewer visitors since they started getting confused by the new store? What if you own another leather jacket store, and everyone in town only knows about ‘The Hard-Wear Store’ even though you carry the coolest fringed jackets around? The internet’s not a zero-sum game, there are enough customers and links out on the internet for everyone. But there is a good reason Google doesn’t want people knowing their exact search algorithm. They want a clear picture of the internet to give the best results for searchers. When you fake it, like a leather store pretending to be a hardware store, you help muddy the internet waters.

In the early days of the internet, nobody was designing sites or creating links for the benefit of robots. Good sites on the net were popular because they had visitors that told their friends and linked to them on their own websites. Bad sites fell by the wayside without visitors or links from other sites. The internet got big enough that ‘survival of the fittest’ could hardly last. Businesses realized how valuable the internet was and how lucrative it could be to be on top of Google rankings even if users weren’t spontaneously linking to your site or visiting on their own. Thus SEO, and an arms race between optimizers and search engines, started.

Manual action on spam (generally removal of spam sites from Google’s cache) through 9/2012 from Google’s ‘Fighting Spam’ page inside their ‘How Search Works’ site. Blue data points are for ‘Pure Spam’. Taken from http://www.google.com/insidesearch/howsearchworks/fighting-spam.html

SEOs often lament algorithm changes since it makes their jobs harder, but I welcome them. Every step gets us closer to a spam-free internet. It’s a little scary for those people whose jobs are to get sites higher in the rankings, but also means that interesting, popular content may soon be king again. The idea of an internet where the interesting and useful are top dog makes me happier than a kid at Christmas. The idea of millions of useless link network sites lying around the internet, created in a hurry simply to push a Thai Cialis company’s rankings up one spot makes me sadder than piles of wrapping paper the day after.

The secret ingredients in marketing a site for real people and the Google of the future are talent and patience. Unfortunately, these two traits have been absent from traditional SEO since it’s inception. You need a good product, good content, and a good site to be popular. This takes talent. You also need for people to realize what you have is worthwhile. This takes patience. Here’s hoping we can find some of both in our SEO work.

Ever wanted to give your company or service a bit of a marketing push offline but have been put off by the lengthy and expensive process of doing so? If you take into account the time spent trying to put everything together then you can’t really be blamed!

First you will need to find a graphic designer local to you who can create a flyer of leaflet which can satisfy your needs, and then take into account the time they will take to produce the design, not to mention the cost they’re likely to charge!

Next you need to go through the lengthy process of finding a printer who can make the desired number of printed copies, delivered to you, in the format and style that you want. Bear in mind here that some printing firms will take many weeks to process all of this, and it won’t be cheap either!

Finally you will need to then find a company who will then deliver flyers for you, in the area you want. Again this is a very important part of the process if you’re looking to go down the route of direct marketing, using door to door methods. You may be forgiven at this point for wanting to scream at someone, or wishing you never even got involved with the whole marketing process!

Thankfully however there is another way. Design Print Post is a company which takes care of the whole process, from start to finish. Their unique service means that you don’t need to spend excessive time, and money, looking for each of the services required to carry out offline marketing. In a sense they provide the whole process for you, from start to finish, in one package.

Say for example you had just opened up a flower delivery service in a small town. Maybe you feel that no-one knows you exist right now (maybe you’re tucked away in a small avenue which doesn’t get so much visibility from pedestrians). Perhaps you feel that you need a bit of a direct marketing push – you want someone to go and spread the word about what it is your flower delivery service does, where it does it, and how much it charges. You decide that a flyer campaign would be great, targeting houses in the local area. However you have some stumbling points – you’re new in the area and don’t have any graphic design contacts, or printers, or marketers. This is where Design Print Post will come in handy – the flower delivery service can simply get in touch with them and explain what they need. All they need to give is the details of the leaflet (company logo, if they have one, address, contact number, what they want to promote), the size flyer they require, and the number (and if necessary type) of people to deliver to. This enables the flower company to concentrate on what they know, and to focus on selling and running their business. They can leave the marketing in the capable hands of Design Print Post, who will take care of all their marketing needs.

It is always hard to decide how to spend marketing dollars. If you have a large company, you usually have a larger marketing budget. If you are a small business owner looking to maximize your small marketing budget, then you may be interested in the science of bid management. This science is intertwined with pay per click advertising. Pay per click advertising is a great way to spend your marketing dollars, but it is important that you look at it carefully and that you are armed with a quiver of information about how you implement that pay per click advertising.

Clicking Explained

Pay per click advertising is simply an internet advertising model that is utilized to direct traffic to a website. These banner ads are usually found on relevant websites, enticing consumers to click and be directed to the website. When consumers click on the ads, the affiliates are paid. If business is not generated and clicks don’t happen, payments don’t exchange hands either. If you are looking to only pay for marketing that is successful this is a good way to go; however, the point of marketing is to generate business. If your pay per click ads are not generating business, your markeing strategy is not working. You don’t need to abandon the idea of pay per click advertising, you may just need to fine tune the key words you are working with or define what your goals are in working with pay per click.

Differing Goals

You can look at the different ways in which to use your management software. There are a few different options available, including:

  • Click Maximization: The system attempts to buy bids for the cheapest price possible, looking at the price difference between keywords.
  • Conversion Maximization: The quality of the clicks as well as the cost is taken into account together. Complicated algorithims are used to garner this information; therefore, information can take longer to generate.
  • Profit Maximization: This is based on a conversion measuring, and the quality of conversions. This type of maximization requires solid numbers and information and can be unsteady if numbers change.

Mathematicians Unite

Thankfully, you don’t have to be a Harvard mathematician with a room full of abaci to calculate all of the values associated with pay per click advertising. You have access to super smart programmers who have an intimate knowledge of all the variables associated with this type of advertising. These programmers speak algorithim, and have done all of the work for you. You just need to decide what type of advertising you would like, what your advertising budget is, and what your business goals are. You can work with a marketing professional who can use bid management software and pay per click advertising with as much ease as a doctor wields a scalpel. Your revenue will thank you for it, and so will your business budget. Your algebra teacher will be so proud that you are actually using math in your everyday life.

Relationships between buyers and sellers, much like relationships that exist in every day life, can have a variety of dynamics. Businesses want to secure strong relationships with customers in order to obtain and encourage repeat business. Marketers specifically desire stronger relationships with customers who are more likely to spend money on a new and innovative product – a ‘lead user’. These relationships then can determine the strategy that a seller uses to secure a sale.

The relationships that can exist between salespeople and customers range from one-time transactions, to a partnership that can be most accurately compared to a marriage.Transactional relationships between a buyer and seller are treated as separate and individual exchanges. There is no assumption that there will be future or repeat business. A functional relationship is a limited but ongoing relationship where a buyer may purchase out of habit. If the needs of the buyer are being sufficiently met in this relationship, they won’t seek out an alternative. An affiliative selling relationship exists when the buyer needs specific expertise from the seller. This is a stronger relationship that is built on trust as the buyer needs to make the best purchasing decision possible and feels the seller will provide the information necessary for an educated decision. A strategic partnership exists when both the buyer and the seller commit their time to building and strengthening the relationship. This is the one more commonly referred to as a ‘marriage’.

In addition to these four types of relationships, there are also four main selling strategies. The one that is most effective depends on the type of relationship that is established between the buyer and seller. Script-based selling is a strategy where a salesperson memorizes a specific sales pitch and delivers it to each individual customer. This type of strategy is most effective when the needs of each customer aren’t very different and it ensures that the most important aspects of the product are delivered consistently. Needs satisfaction selling is a strategy where salespeople ask questions in order to identify what the buyer really needs. They are then able to match their sales pitch to the customer’s needs in order to establish a benefit. Consultative selling is a strategy where salespeople use their expertise on a subject in order to find a solution to a problem that exists for the buyer. Finally, strategic partner selling is where a buyer and seller equally invest in mutual resources and share information with each other in order to equally benefit.

Marketing techniques are taking interesting turns every once in a while. Promotional products are the new techniques in marketing that companies are using to increase brand awareness, attract new customers and subsequently boosts their sales. Nevertheless, some companies are yet to realize the power of these promotional products. They are a tested and cost effective method of marketing your organization to a much larger audience while doing minimal work. However, it is understandable that you might be hesitant to try out this new technique if you are new to the business. You might want to change your mind after you consider what promotional products in Canada can do for you.

  • Paving the way for communication

If you are a prudent business executive, you probably have heard the saying that “give and you shall receive”. The unwritten law that applies in every level of society indicates that, when you give someone a gift, they feel the need to reciprocate the gesture. In terms of business, when you give promotion products to customers, they will be more inclined to buy your products. According to a research conducted recently, more than 52303646f these individuals will do business with your company. The remaining will be more likely to do business with you in future.

Giving out a product for promotional purposes is also an excellent way of starting a long conversation with a potential client. Giving someone something free helps you break the ice and engage in a pleasant conversation. The person will be more willing to listen to you talk about your company, brand, products and services, if you give them something. It does not have to be an expensive item. A simple thing such a cool pen is often enough to strike a conversation and, begin a long and productive relationship.

  • The right promotional products draw attention

Without a doubt, every company wants to be the most popular table during a trade show or convention. Everyone wants attention for his or her company and products. Using promotional products is a great way of attracting attention. One of the most powerful words to use in marketing is free. If you offer people free stuff during the trade show, they will come in plenty. It is easy to do this since all you need is to send a promotion product and after a few people and as they wander around with it , they will generate interest and people will come.

A successful Marketer considers many different factors when determining which strategy would be most effective for the product or service that they are attempting to promote.

Some factors exist internally and require an audit of the inner-workings of the company to identify and strengths and weaknesses. These factors include personal and their level of training and education as well as resources like financial funds, materials and overall capabilities. However, the factors that are arguably more important are those that exist outside of the organization. These are factors that the company itself has no control over but need to be aware of so that they are able to react and handle them effectively. These are environmental factors and they include competitors, suppliers and buyers, the economy and society.

When a new idea/product/service enters a market and is successful, it leads to many other companies attempting to capitalize on it’s success and create something similar. New entrants (competitors) that could potentially enter the marketplace or that may already exist needs to be a forethought in a Marketer’s mind. These competitors and the substitute products that they may introduce could have a strong impact on the effectiveness of a companies campaign and marketing strategy.

The bargaining power of suppliers and buyers is another external factor that should be considered. It is most advantageous to use many different suppliers so that you aren’t forced into a position of paying higher prices because you have no other option. Making sure suppliers are rightfully compensated and respected can keep them in a company’s favor and ensure a profitable relationship. Also, buyers have a strong amount of power in the success of a business. If they decide to purchase products/services that they think are better or are less expensive, that could significantly affect another company’s profitability.

The economy also plays an important role in the success of a marketing strategy. Rise in prices and inflation cause people to spend less money, affecting businesses in every marketplace. Unemployment and lack of jobs also causes people to spend less money but if a marketing strategy for a new product/service can create jobs, this can be a way to react effectively to these factors and turn it into a strength. Interest rates, growth and/or recession are additional economic external factors marketers should consider. Factors in society such as cultural movements, trends and attitudes can affect what consumers choose to buy. Marketers should consider demographics, age groups, the different income brackets and marital status when conducting research for the most effective marketing strategy.
